ABRACE (Brazilian Association of Major Power Consumers and Free Consumers), founded on August 22, 1984, is a non-profit organization that gathers major industrial groups, from energy intensive to free consumers, which respond for 20% of the whole electric energy consumed in Brazil and 40% of the thermal energy consumed by the Brazilian industry.

Member of the Word Energy Council (WEC), of the International Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (IFIEC) and of the Latin American Association of Major Manufacturing Energy Consumers (INTERAME), ABRACE, recognized as the sector’s main organized interlocutor, seeks to structure its actions in focus with the country’s energy sustainable development, always in constant synergy with its members, to whom energy is seen as a prime component and preponderant factor for their products competitiveness and, consequently, that of the Brazilian economy as a whole.

ABRACE
believes the defense of energy offer at competitive prices is not an issue at energy sector, but for the whole nation. After all, its members, besides belonging to different areas of the production industry, like aluminum, chlorine/ sodium hydroxide, cement, steel companies, oil and chemicals, paper and  cellulose, glass, fertilizers, iron-alloys, mining, textiles and gases, are responsible for millions of employees, have a massive insertion in citizens daily life and contribute decisively for a good performance of Brazilian economy. Value these groups’ competitiveness is, therefore, imperative.

That is ABRACE’S vocation.

The association, which from its inception has been receiving ample recognition for its strong actions, is involved in activities that aim at:
  • the energy sector’s refining and modernization;
  • taking into effect economic-commercial integration and free trade projects;
  • refining the system’s legal and regulatory outline;
  • incrementing investments on the power generation sector ;
  • enhancing scale and improvement competitiveness;
  • creation of jobs and consequent well being of the population.
